Johnny Depp is set to star in a movie about the deaths of rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G – playing the detective who investigated both cases.

Labyrinth will see the Oscar-nominated star playing Russell Poole, an LAPD officer who spent months on the cases before pointing the finger of suspicion at officers from his own police department.
His theory formed the basis for a five-year legal battle against the city of Los Angeles by Biggie’s mother, Violetta Wallace – which was eventually dismissed in 2010.
The film is based on a book about the case by investigative journalist Randall Sullivan.

Notorious B.I.G, also known as Biggie Smalls, was killed by an unknown assailant in a drive-by shooting in March 1997, while Tupac died in September of that year following a drive-by in Las Vegas.
Biggie, best remembered for 1994 album Ready To Die, is regarded as one of the most influential rappers of all time, while Tupac remains popular almost two decades after his death, having sold over 75m albums worldwide.
